New Published Work

This is my first blog entry in quite some time but it’s good to be back. I have been putting together a collection of new work during this lockdown period and there are now galleries on New Orleans and male portraiture that have been taken over the years. I will have new work featuring British Columbia in Canada soon.

In the meantime, after all the seriousness of lockdown I'm excited to share that my long exposure image of Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) will feature in National Geographic's upcoming book - The Complete Photography Guide. Hopefully one day soon we can all go out and I can take pictures again! Stay well.

Aurora Hunting

It's Aurora time! We had a massive solar storm this weekend which has led to us going out the past two nights chasing them. Our destination - Porteau Cove, British Columbia, Canada. It's a great location to shoot on a clear night as the stars are out in all directions and the park offers unique structures to shoot while you wait for the lights. I particularly like to shoot the Milky Way here. The northern lights show we received on the second night was one of my favourites I've had in the region. Often they dance for you but this time they pulsed. The best time to see them is between 1am and 3:30am. Eyes up.

Vancouver area from above

I've been living in and around the Vancouver area for almost 11 years and this month marks my first year as being a Canadian citizen. To remind myself of the beauty of the region I took to the air. I'm not sure what lies ahead but I'm grateful for the last decade and the collection of experiences I've had here.

National Geographic - Daily Peace

I finally got a copy of the Daily Peace featuring my image from the Arctic. I never dreamed when I was taking it that it would one day end up in a book by National Geographic. It was already special enough being under the northern lights.

What was that about God?

Back in October I stumbled across the filming of National Geographic's documentary series Story of God  at the Fishawys Cafe in Khan El Khalili,  Cairo. It was a fascinating encounter with Morgan Freeman and the crew who were outnumbered by a large security team that looked like they would do more harm than good to Mr. Freeman. Very much looking forward to seeing the final result of this production and so wonderful I was able to be there. This image was featured in The Egyptian Streets  and Al Bawaba coverage of the event.

The Mosque inside the grounds at Manial Palace in Cairo was built by Prince Mohamed Ali, uncle of King Farouk in the early 20th century. It's a tiny mosque in comparison to some but what it lacks in size it makes up for with intricate designs and the presence of something powerful. Nestled amongst the treelined grounds one can't help but stand still here. I was moved to be quiet and reflect with gratitude.

Being told your work is to be included in an upcoming book for National Geographic is like all the holidays coming at once. I'm not sure when it's out but I'm happy to be included in the latest book - Daily Peace. Below is the image. Thank you again National Geographic!
